How a TradeQBank question earns its place in a bank
Most exam-prep failures are not about effort — they're about trust. Free question dumps are anonymous, uncited, and nobody checks them; print books freeze their answer keys for a decade and buyers find the errors. Our process exists to make every answer in every bank traceable and checkable. This page describes it exactly, because the process is the product.
1. Source-locked authoring
Every bank starts from the official blueprint: WPI's published Need-to-Know Criteria for that exam, which sets the content areas, their weights, and the tasks an operator at that class must be able to perform. Questions are allocated across the five content areas in the blueprint's proportions, with about 10% calculation items — the same shape as the real exam.
A question is written only when its answer can be traced to a citable, authoritative source from the exam's own approved reference list: the Sacramento State (CSUS) Office of Water Programs texts, AWWA and WEF study guides, Standard Methods, and EPA regulations in 40 CFR Part 141. If a fact can't be cited, the question doesn't get written. The citation travels with the question and is shown to you, in the player, next to the explanation.
Calculation questions use only the standard formulas and conversions candidates are given on exam day (the WPI formula/conversion table), so the arithmetic you practice is the arithmetic you'll actually do.
2. Independent second-pass verification
Writing a question and checking it are different jobs, so we separate them. After a batch is drafted, an independent reviewer takes the questions without the answer key and derives every answer from scratch — attacking the items the way a skeptical operator would: Is a second option defensible? Does the regulation actually say that? Do the numbers reproduce?
- Every calculation is recomputed step by step, with units.
- Regulatory and numeric specifics (limits, holding times, timelines, thresholds) are checked against the primary source — the CFR text, the OSHA standard, the Standard Methods procedure — not against another prep site.
- Any disagreement between the drafter's key and the reviewer's derivation kills or rewrites the question. It is never argued in.
Water Treatment Class I result: 326 questions drafted across ten batches; independent verification agreed with the drafted key on 326 of 326 questions, with zero items flagged. The sample bank went through the same process before the full bank was built (25 of 25).
3. Kept current, on a schedule
- Annual re-verification: every bank gets a full re-verification pass once a year, re-deriving keys and re-checking citations.
- Trigger-based re-checks: if WPI republishes the Need-to-Know Criteria, or the EPA changes a rule a bank cites, the affected bank is re-verified immediately, not at the next annual pass.
- Most of a bank is evergreen: roughly 70–80% of Class I material is fundamentals that don't change. The scheduled passes concentrate on the regulation- and blueprint-sensitive remainder — which is exactly where print books go stale.
- Updates are free to everyone who bought the bank.
4. Errata: a standing invitation to prove us wrong
Every question in the player carries a “Report an error” link. A report triggers a re-check of that question against its cited source. If the key is verified wrong, we fix or retire the question, the correction goes into the bank for every buyer, and the buyer who reported it gets that bank's purchase refunded (see Pricing for the exact policy). We treat error reports as free quality control, not as complaints.
We are also honest about the limit of any process: even WPI's own system can't promise perfection — that's why 10 of the 110 questions on the real exam are unscored pretest items being evaluated. What we can promise is a process where every answer is traceable, double-derived, re-checked on a schedule, and correctable by anyone who finds a problem. No competitor in this niche publishes anything like it.
What we will never do
- Sell or use “actual exam questions.” The exam is confidential; recalled-question dumps are off-limits, full stop.
- Promise that you'll pass. Preparation quality is ours to control; your exam result is not ours to guarantee.
- Publish a number we can't trace to a source checked recently — prices, pass rates, member counts, or our own verification results.
